Van Gaal: 'Surprise' Manchester United signing is NOT a striker

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal once again alluded to a 'surprise' signing this summer, but insists it will not be a striker. Van Gaal was speaking to the media after his side beat San Jose Earthquakes 3-1 in their latest pre-season friendly, with goals from Juan Mata, Memphis Depay and Andreas Pereira. The Dutchman has previously hinted that he will bolster his striking ranks with a player who has not been written about in the newspapers, but now says the man in question is not a forward after all. "I have read in the media a striker is the surprise," he said. "That's not right. It's something else." After United beat Club America on Saturday, Van Gaal discussed his options up front for next season, saying: "We have Rooney, he can play in striker's position, and all media had written he should play there so I listen and now you put this question so I don't know what you want.
