Depay can match Beckham's free-kick prowess-Irwin

The ex-England captain was well known for his ability from set-pieces and the Red Devils' summer signing has been backed to become the next master of dead balls at Old Trafford. Former Manchester United full-back Denis Irwin believes Memphis Depay has the talent to match the free-kick taking ability of David Beckham. Ex-England captain Beckham forged a reputation as a set-piece expert while at Old Trafford, and even had the film 'Bend it like Beckham' named after him due to his ability to curl the ball with apparent ease. And Irwin - who played alongside Beckham under Sir Alex Ferguson for the Red Devils and was something of a free-kick master himself - feels Depay can replicate the skills of the former Real Madrid midfielder. "I think Memphis could match Becks in that sense," he told United's official website. "I saw him score a few goals last year for PSV and I think he will be a big addition to our team. "It’s still early days yet, but there’s no doubt that he has a lot of talent. "He brings that unpredictability and we don’t possess too many players like that. "His records will tell you that, even though he’s young, he’s a goal scorer as well. "We’ve already seen how good he is at finishing, so I think he’ll become a big player for us even though he’s young." Depay is one of five new faces that Louis van Gaal has brought to the club this summer after the arrivals of Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Sergio Romero.
