Memphis Depay can handle the pressure of wearing Manchester United's famous No 7 shirt, believes club legend Bryan Robson

Former Manchester United captain Bryan Robson believes that Memphis Depay has what it takes to wear the famous No 7 shirt at Old Trafford. The Holland international has become the seventh permanent owner of it for the Red Devils, the first three of whom - Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo - all became club legends with the iconic number on their back. Depay, however, who made his debut against Tottenham last Saturday, will be hoping to reverse a more recent trend of players who have struggled to live up to expectation while wearing it, such as Michael Owen, Antonio Valencia and Angel di Maria.
Robson, however, who also wore the No 7 shirt during his time at Old Trafford before squad numbers became permanent, says Depay has the ability to cope with it. 'I think he’s a confident lad,' Robson told Manchester United's official website. 'He’s got great ability and great pace. So I don’t think that’s going to be a hassle to him, otherwise he wouldn’t have accepted the No 7 shirt as soon as it was offered to him.
